Actress and The View co-host Rosie Perez was left in floods of tears during the taping of The View with special guests Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.
Perez wasn’t prepared to go into detail about how Bennett’s music had helped her in her past but once Whoopi Goldberg asked Perez to divulge the impact of his music, Perez fought back tears as she spoke about her childhood and her father.
Talking of the situation Perez said: “You caught me off guard, this wasn’t on the cards!” and then added; “Well Mr Bennett, i had a very difficult childhood and when i would go to Puerto Rico to visit my father we didn’t know how to speak to one another so he would put on Nat King Cole and would always put on Tony Bennett and when Tony Bennett the needle would drop he would start talking and all he would talk about is your artistry and say that you were the gentleman of jazz. And so my father and I bonded over your music”
After being handed a signed Life Magazine on Tony Bennett, Bennett and Perez hugged and he told her “Id like to meet him one day”.
Gaga also gave Perez a big kiss on the cheek which left a big lipstick kiss mark.
Fighting back tears, Perez added: “Thats the power of music. Gaga apologized for kissing me but im gonna take a picture (showing off her face). but thats the power of music and thats what you guys do”

He asked me to make an album with him and ive been in heaven ever since.!”
Gushing even more about Bennett, Gaga praised him for letting her be herself in a musical pop world where image is sometimes more important than ability. She said: “He always has a suit on whenever i come into the studio and all of the players always stand up for me when I arrive and the music is all layed out for me and the truth is i started out as a musician so when i got into the pop industry it was kind of uncomfortable for me because everything is very regimented  and electronic and is all about how you look and things being perfect and you know with Tony it was always all about being authentically great and talented and i am so grateful to him and i thank you (Tony) for giving me this chance.
“Thank god you didnt retire 17yrs ago cos what the hell would i be doing”
A plane banner was also shown that said Happy Birthday Tony (heart) Gaga which was a birthday present from Gaga to Bennett for his birthday last year.
