Actor Bradley Cooper appears on the cover of US magazine, GQ. The Hangover star, 38, talks about getting sober in the January 2014 issue, on newsstands now. “If I continued it [the abuse], I was really going to sabotage my whole life,” he said. Asked if it had affected his work, he said: “I mean, it has to have. And to this day, of course, because it’s a life experience. And all I do is bring life experience. That’s all anybody really does. It’s inescapable.”
Irish actor Colin Farrell said that back in his darker days as an alcoholic if his family ever tried to help or stage an intervention he would fight back and declare he would ‘kill the people in white coats’ if they ever came to his door to help him. Farrell said he was always under the impression that he was only harming himself whilst intoxicated and drunk but now sees the true nature of alcoholism and sees that it hurts everyone around him.
On playing an alcoholic in his new movie Saving Mr Banks whilst himself being sober, Farrell sat down with Ellen Degeneres on The Ellen Show and spoke about the role, he said: “It was fine. I understand with my own version of what having issue with booze is and the self pity that can come with it.
For years i thought well im only hurting myself and you know my family were trying to get me help for years. Id say go on i dare you go get the people in the white coats and see if i don’t stab them to death. i thought im only hurting myself and you’re not, you’re hurting many people who care about you. Not everyone gets thru it how i did”
Farrell also spoke about how he became friends with actress Elizabeth Taylor before she died and how he’d often call her at 3am for a chat. Talking of Taylor, Farrell said: “She was really cool and a spectacular woman.” Before jokingly adding: “I wanted to be number 8 but we ran out of road”
At one point they flashed up a picture of Farrell’s home to show off his attempt at decorating his family home with christmas lights
